The time has come for back to school! Supply lists are coming out, children are getting things in order…and I am over here purchasing “boring” school supplies and making them extra special for my boys. Our latest project was these painted wooden rulers!
These are so completely easy to make and are a bright and cheerful. Make whatever designs you want or random splashes of color.
What You Need
- Wooden ruler
- Water color paints
- Water
- Paintbrush
Directions
1. Dip your paintbrush in the water and begin painting the top of the ruler with the water color paints. You can make any design you wish. My son added red and black to his and I helped make a splotchy sort of tie dye one and a sunset.
Use a little extra water to spread the colors over the bare wood, but be careful not to over-soak the wood as it may warp. If your ruler has a dip in the center, your colors will probably run along there so smaller designs may be more difficult to make. You will also want to steer clear of black since it may make the numbers and lines difficult to see.
2. Let dry completely.
How adorable are these? This is so easy, kids can do it! It makes a great craft for teens and tweens. What colors and designs will you use on yours?
