As momma bears, we try to do everything we can to protect our babies. When nighttime falls and we lie down in a separate room, we want to know that our little one will be safe which is why we try to keep the crib away from blind cords, keep it free of stuffed animals, and dress our babies in great products like the Zipadee-Zip Slumber Sack (shown in the photo at the bottom.) One of the best nap time/bedtime safety measures you can take as a mom is to find your little one a really good crib mattress. The Lullaby Earth LE14 Super Lightweight Crib and Toddler Mattress is both safe and comfortable for baby.
What I Love
Mattresses we have used in the past were often too heavy for me and putting on new sheets was always quite a hassle. I love that the Lullaby Earth LE14 baby mattress is so light, weighing only 7 pounds! It is easy for me to move around with one hand (as often that is all I have available to use.) The mattress is so easy to pull and lift up out of the crib as well for changing the sheets.
This super lightweight 2-stage mattress fits both cribs and toddler beds! It has a firmer side for infants and slightly softer side for toddlers. This product is great for transitioning your child to a big kid bed. The surface is made of 100% food-grade PE (Polyethylene terephthalate plastic) so it is completely waterproof, even the edges, and is easily wiped off after messy diapers, spit up, and accidents during potty training. Trust me, I have already had to deal with this. The fabric also serves as a barrier against bed bugs and dust mites and prevents mold and mildew.
What I love most about the Lullaby Earth Eco-Plus infant and toddler mattress is that it is safe! The mattress is firm and fits the sheets snugly so your baby can roll over freely and not get stuck and suffocate. If a mattress has too much give, your baby could roll onto his tummy and be unable to turn back over or free his face from things that could cover his airways. This product, measuring 27.5″ x 52″ x 6″ and follows ASTM standards; to prevent the mattress slipping or baby getting caught between the crib and mattress, it has square corners to fit the crib tightly with little to no gaps.
As I mentioned above, the core and surface is made of commonly recycled food-grade PE also known as PET/PETE. PETE is used in food containers such as ketchup bottles, soda bottles, and peanut butter jars. The cushioning is made from Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) which is used for some bread/frozen food bags, plastic wrap and squeeze bottles. According to HealthyChild.org, neither is known to leak harmful chemicals as long as they are not microwaved (I would hope you don’t plan to microwave your crib mattress…and I am pretty positive it would not fit anyway.) This crib is so safe you can eat on it! It is free of chemicals such as polyurethane, vinyl/PVC, polyurethane coated nylon or damask, PFC water-resistant treatments, antibacterial biocides, and various others as well as being free of flame barriers or other flame retardant chemicals while still meeting all state and federal flammability standards and it is allergen free. What I’m Not Huge On
The standard sheets that I have are a little difficult to fit over the crib mattress; you have to put them on just right and tug and tug to get them on. The product is not very deep, so I was not expecting this, but I am used to our old mattress which had far too much give so the sheets were very loose and very unsafe for the baby. While I would prefer to be able to pull the sheets on tightly with a little more ease, NEEDING TO USE A LITTLE EXTRA ELBOW GREASE IS WORTH IT FOR YOUR CHILD’S SAFETY. I am happy the sheets are that tight on the mattress because I know there won’t be extra fabric pulled up that my son can choke on.
The only other thing I noticed is that the mattress is just a little too big for the old toddler bed we currently own. I believe it will fit the newer toddler beds, however, and wooden beds, and especially toddler daybeds if your crib transitions into that.
Overall, with the Lullaby Earth Eco-Plus LE14 Super Lightweight Crib and Toddler Mattress, you can rest easy knowing your little one is sleeping safely. It prevents suffocation and does not leach out harmful chemicals. Unlike other popular heavy mattresses, it is easy for moms to use and it even grows with your child and I can tell it has a high quality that will last which makes it a great value.
