It’s that time of year again…back-to-school time. You and your children are probably shopping for new school outfits, but where do you start? E is officially starting K-5 this year, after we worked informally this past year (due to the fact he missed the age cutoff by 4 days), so I want to share how we layered clothes from OshKosh B’gosh to create a personalized fall kids fashion back-to-school look.
Layering clothing is not only stylish, but useful!
The start of the school year is a time for many changes. Not only is your child beginning a new adventure in a new grade, but the season is also changing. The hot summer heat will quickly turn to a cool fall breeze. When we purchase back-to-school outfits, we take this into consideration. This is one reason why layering clothes is so important.
Staple fashion clothing items you need:
- Graphic Tee
What to Look For:
The first thing we looked for when building a layered outfit for E was that it fit his personality. This boy loves science. We are always looking up at the sky searching for stars and planets. We found a super stellar graphic tee with the solar system on it. I absolutely adore that it shows all the planets with their names and even a quick description of each.
OshKosh B’gosh has so many stylish, age-appropriate graphic tees that you are sure to find ones that fit your child’s personality. They really understand kid style.
Color and Pattern
We try to choose colors that my boys love and pieces of clothing that have coordinating patterns and colors. One thing I love about shopping at OshKosh B’gosh is that you can always find a great variety of clothing that coordinates, which makes this part simple. I usually choose an assortment of tops I believe will coordinate with the graphic tee we chose then have E try them each on in the dressing rooms. We pick out our favorites together.
School days consist of a combination of sit-down activities and active play, so when we are finding pieces to add we try to find things that will look great but also hold up to play. OshKosh B’gosh has some active wear for kids, so we always try to find at least one piece that will coordinate with the graphic tee we chose. This year E chose a jacket. We love to play outside, and jackets will keep him warm as he plays. They also have athletic pants that coordinate with the jackets.
We also always choose a dressier button-up top that coordinates with the graphic tee make a fashion statement. The materials OshKosh B’gosh uses for their button-up shirts allow you to dress the shirt up or down. I love how these layer as jackets for the graphic tees and can also be worn stand-alone. The long sleeves are just what your child needs when the weather cools off, too.
Every wardrobe needs basic kids fashion items. One of the items we need to have as a basic is pants. My boys have a wide variety of shirts they wear, but only a few pair of pants, so the pants need to coordinate with just about anything. Usually we will get jeans or khaki pants. This time we chose some sleek blue pants. They are a little dressier than jeans, but can be worn casually as well and look great with the top he chose.
My boys are skinny mini, so I love that OshKosh B’gosh pants have adjustable waistbands. We also have some of their belts for the pants that still need a bit of help.
We have found some amazing deals at OshKosh B’gosh, so stylish new back-to-school fashion clothing can be very affordable. Between their doorbusters, regular sales, clearance prices, and coupons, you are sure to find outfits that fit your budget.

These pictures of E turned out great. He is growing into such a little man! Since he loves science and we found just the outfit to fit his personality, I decided to highlight the subject: science. He was so excited to wear the solar system graphic t-shirt while he learned, especially for the “mad scientist” pictures where we experimented with color mixing.
Transition into the fall season and new school year in true kids fashion with stylish, functional layered outfits with OshKosh B’gosh clothes.
