I recently was able to try out Tommee Tippee’s Closer to Nature electric breast pump (check it out HERE.) Though I plan to solely nurse, I love being able to pump and save for those times we may be out and about or just to make things easier while my husband is away if I do not feel like breastfeeding and want someone else to help feed my son.

Personally, when regular pumping (which I am doing much of right now as I just had my son) I prefer to use a double pump (Tommee Tippee has one HERE) to keep things quick and even, like if my son decides to only eat on one side. The closer to nature electric pump is small, easily portable, and can be powered by batteries so you can take it with you on the go!

The motor has three suction levels and the pump pumps at the same speed. The pump was not fast enough for me compared to what I am used to in a breast pump, but the pump is very comfortable, especially with the soft silicone cover for the cups. I would not mind not being able to adjust the speed as much if I did not have another kid to look after, but I cannot deny that this pump did a great job at expressing milk. As for sound, while it may not be completely discreet and silent, it is as loud as most other pumps I have tried and will not be disruptive if you are out and about.

I LOVE that this pump comes with a sterilizer box. You just toss the pieces into the box with the certain amount of water and pop it into the microwave. The package also includes a closer to nature bottle, milk storage containers, and disposable breast pads.

The Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature electric breast pump is sold at Target or Babies R Us and runs for around $150.

  1. How is the sound level? If a mom wanted to use it discreetly at work, for what other things might co-workers mistake the noise? Could she operate it on battery power if she kept the pump in a bag hung from her shoulder or a back of a chair, if her workplace didn’t provide table or counter space by the chair that she used for pumping?

    • Oh I did not mention that thank you! It would be audible, but it is not very loud–it has a typical pump sound and volume so they could probably tell that the mom is pumping but it would still be fairly discreet. And yes, the pump is very small, lightweight and portable so it will easily fit in small areas and the battery option would work well if she cannot plug it in anywhere.

  2. This looks really nice! I will have to share with my sister who is due to give birth next month!
