Warm Lingonberry Spiced Punch (Cider/ Non-Alcoholic Glögg) Recipe

I participated in Mom Blog Tour at the Summer Fancy Food Show on behalf of Wendy’s Bloggers and received Felix products to facilitate my review. #MomBlogTourFF
Warm, spiced beverages are just what one needs on a chilly day. I’m talking spiced punch…cider…glögg. Lingonberry is such a versatile berry, I decided to incorporate it in this delicious Warm Lingonberry Spiced Punch.

Warm up with this lingonberry spiced punch. It is made in a slow cooker and takes only minutes to prepare. It has a sweet and spicy flavor and works as a mulled cider or non-alcoholic glogg for fall and Christmas. This Lingonberry Spiced Punch is a non-alcoholic version of traditional Scandinavian glögg, a hot spiced wine punch that is served at Christmastime. The sweet, tangy flavor of the lingonberries suits this perfectly. One thing I love is that this beverage recipe does not need to remain seasonal. Typically, glögg is only served on Christmas, but this Lingonberry Spiced Punch is suitable as a berry-flavored spiced cider beverage (just in time for fall!).

This punch is so simple to make and does not dirty many dishes, which is a huge bonus (it uses a slow cooker!). I am seriously in love with this recipe. In just minutes, the punch was prepped and ready to mull. Since it is non-alcoholic, the kids can enjoy it too!

Here’s the really fun part–my Lingonberry Spiced Punch actually uses Felix lingonberry jam, as opposed to a juice. The jam itself was sweet and flavorful enough that I was able to bypass adding sugar to the punch.

In a slow cooker, combine the apple juice (I used an all-natural variety without added sugar), lingonberry jam, and water. You can use any variety of lingonberry jam you wish–you will find spiced varieties that will add a bit more of a flavor punch to your punch–but I just stuck with good old original lingonberries.

Turn the slow cooker on low heat and give the liquid a stir.

Lingonberry Spiced Punch Step 1

Slightly crush up the cinnamon sticks and cardamom pods and roughly chop the ginger.

Place all of the spices and the ginger into a small piece of cheesecloth, creating a satchel. I double-layered the cheesecloth then I cut a small strip of cheesecloth to tie the satchel shut (you can use cooking twine, but I did not have any so I got creative.).

I then cut off the excess cheesecloth, just to make everything neat. Be sure to pull up on the edges of the cheesecloth a bit to pull off any loose strings. You don’t want those floating in the spiced punch.

Place the spice satchel into the liquid mixture and add in the slices of orange. Cover and heat the Lingonberry Spiced Punch for about 1 hour on low.

Lingonberry Spiced Punch Step 3

Typically glögg is left to cool and stored away until it is time to serve, at which point it is re-heated, but you can also enjoy this punch right away. I tried some immediately as well as re-heated and I think I prefer the slightly stronger re-heated flavor.

Glögg is often served with rice pudding topped with jam/jelly (try one of the lingonberry jam varieties!).

This warm lingonberry spiced punch is delightful to serve as a non-alcoholic glogg for Christmas or as a spiced cider for fall.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup water
  • ½ gallon apple juice
  • ⅓ cup + 1 Tablespoon Felix lingonberry jam
  • ½ medium orange, sliced
  • 1 cinnamon stick, crushed
  • 12 cardamom pods, crushed
  • ¼ teaspoon fresh ginger, peeled and chopped
  • 2 Tablespoons raisins
  • 1 Tablespoon almond slivers

Instructions

  1. Combine water, apple juice, and lingonberry jam in a slow cooker and turn on low.
  2. Tie the cinnamon, cardamom pods, ginger, raisins, and almond slivers into a cheesecloth pouch.
  3. Place the pouches of spices and sliced oranges into the slow cooker with the liquids. Heat on low for 1 hour.
  4. Traditionally glogg is heated and set aside, then reheated when it is time to serve. You can do it this way or just serve right away. The flavors will come out just a little more if you choose the traditional route.

Felix Lingonberry Jam

Lingonberry is a berry that goes well with just about anything–meat, sweets, grains, cheese…it’s delightful. We tried some dishes made with lingonberries while we were in NYC and I never would have thought of those recipes–the lingonberries with kielbasa was exceptional.

I love a little lingonberries on Swedish pancakes. Mix a little with butter and you have a delightful spread!

I love your recipe. I see too many recipes even in blogs about and for Children and they will have some sort of alcohol and I think that is wrong even if it only has a small amount it is giving the children the wrong idea.
