Disclaimer: I participated in the Mom Blog Tour at the Summer Fancy Food Show on behalf of Wendy's Bloggers and received John Wm. Macy's CheeseSticks products to facilitate my review. All opinions and recipes are my own.
We love having house guests and hosting board game nights at our house. Of course, snacks are a must. John Wm. Macy’s CheeseSticks are the perfect, convenient party snack and they even work great in recipes like my Cheesy Meatball Subs!
My husband is a huge fan of meatball subs so I wanted to make him one at home. It was actually quite simple and quick to make and was a big hit.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 egg
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves, finely minced
- Pinch of sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Pinch crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon coriander seed
- 1/4 cup John Wm. Macy’s CheeseSticks, Garlic Romano, crushed (about 3 sticks, use a food processor or put them in a baggie and run them over with a rolling pin)
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated
- 1-15 oz. can pizza sauce (I used Cento brand)
- 4 Sub rolls
- 4 slices provolone cheese
Directions
Preheat the oven to 400ºF 1. Combine the meat, egg, oil, spices, parmesan, and crushed CheeseSticks in a bowl until mixed well. 2. Roll the meat into balls 1.5-2 inches in diameter and place them on a parchment paper-lined baking pan. 3. Bake the meatballs 20 minutes, flipping occasionally, until cooked thoroughly. 4. Place the meatballs in a pan along with the pizza sauce and simmer until the sauce is hot and bubbling. Stir it around so the meatballs are covered in sauce. 5. Place the rolls on a baking pan and open them up. Top them with meatballs and sauce (about 3 meatballs per sandwich) and one slice of provolone cut in half. 6. Bake the sandwiches for 2 minutes until the cheese is melted. 7. Top with parmesan cheese if desired. Serves 4 The recipe below is for the meatballs only and uses 95% lean meat. Adding sauce, cheese, and bread or using fattier meat will change the nutritional data. The meatballs can also be enjoyed by themselves, with spaghetti, or in other recipes.

The CheeseSticks are beautiful to serve as they are crunchy, twisted sticks that look like branches. This is the perfect snack to put in a glass and decorate the table at Christmas parties, plus they require no preparation from you. Serve them as they are or with dip.
Besides their original CheeseSticks, John Wm. Macy’s also has CheeseCrisps and SweetSticks. The CheeseCrisps are a great on-the-go snack because they are bite-sized. I really enjoyed the Sesame Gruyère flavor. They are crunchy, savory, and cheesy.
The SweetSticks are much like the CheeseSticks only they are the dessert varieties. There are currently three dessert flavors which include: Dutch Chocolate, Madagascar Vanilla, and Java Cinnamon. These are great for those who want something sweet and savory. You can taste the cheese flavor underneath the other flavors as well.
Try dipping them in coffee!
