Glow Stick Lightsaber Craft

Glow Stick Lightsaber CraftRemember my Star Wars Party from last week? Did you see the cool glow stick lightsabers? My boys absolutely loved these because they were a craft, a decoration, and a toy. As promised, I am sharing my tutorial with you all! It is very similar to my Painted Pencil Makeover.

Of course, this is a craft that can be enjoyed any day, not just for a birthday party. Older children will have fun making these, and younger children will enjoy having them made for them.

What You Need

  • Thin glow sticks in blue, red, and green (we used the kind for bracelets)
  • Black nail polish
  • Silver paint or nail polish

Directions

1. Activate the glow stick by cracking and shaking it.

Glow Stick Lightsaber Step 12. Paint a portion of the bottom with black nail polish to create the handle. Let this dry for a while before the next step and do not set it down. I propped it up with the unpainted side down in a full basket.

Glow Stick Lightsaber Step 23. Paint on two silver bands at the top, one at the bottom, and a rectangular button in the middle. Again, let dry. Drying this time, since it will have to dry completely, will take longer. Dry in a way that the painted base doesn’t touch anything, and let it sit for at least an hour, maybe more, until it is no longer sticky. Depending on the nail polish used, this may take more or less time. Mine was a very thick polish and took a couple hours to completely dry.

Glow Stick Lightsaber Step 34. Have fun with these! They should be made and enjoyed the day of as the glow sticks very quickly lose their bright glow. You could paint the piece before they are activated, but often times it will get messed up when they are activated so I recommend using already glowing sticks.

  1. This is a great idea! You could use the quick drying nail polishes or if you’re like me the gel polishes that cure under a light to make them faster.

    • Definitely! I actually used the miracle gel polish recently for a craft (the quick-drying gel that doesn’t need a light) and it worked so well!
