Peanut Butter Pretzel Present Pops Christmas Treat

You know the old rule “don’t play with your food”? Ya, that doesn’t apply to us. We are always playing with your food. In fact, I encourage my kids to get creative with food (within reason, of course.). Pretzels were on sale at the store a couple weeks ago, so we stocked up and started working on a few different fun play-with-pretzels snack activities…let’s call them snacktivities. These adorable (and delicious) Peanut Butter Pretzel Present Pops were one of them.

Peanut Butter Pretzel Bites shaped like presents are the perfect Christmas treat. They are easy to make and fun for all ages to eat at Christmas parties. Change up the colors for birthday party treats, baby shower treats, or wedding shower treats! Peanut Butter Pretzel Present Pops

That’s sure a mouthful to say (and quite a yummy mouthful, too). They’re snap pretzels filled with creamy peanut butter then coated in melting chocolate and decorated. When I came up with the idea, I had been brainstorming edible treats I had not seen before. We all know there are a crazy amount of pretzel treats being made now, but I hadn’t seen too many with the snaps, so I thought decorating them as gifts for Christmas would be super cute.

Well…as often happens, someone posted something similar to this the day before I had planned to get this post up, SO, if you want to see a different take on pretzel present treats, check out the idea over at Mommy’s Bundle! Hers are cute and can be made much more quickly, which is especially perfect if you need them finished in a snap (pun intended.).

These peanut butter pretzel treats are perfect for Christmas, though the colors can be adjusted to work for birthday parties and other special occasions as well. I find most of my fun food inspiration during the fall and winter holidays. My Pumpkin Patch Pudding Cups…my Turkey-Shaped Turkey Sandwich…I really wanted to focus on more Christmas treats this year (I had so many ideas last year that I will finally get to share!)

Peanut Butter Pretzel Pops Christmas Treat Square

Peanut Butter Pretzel Present Pops are pretty simple to make.

Ingredients

  • Pretzel snaps (the square pretzels)
  • Creamy peanut butter (if you are dealing with nut allergies, you can always add a little chocolate to the center or maybe melt a marshmallow between the layers)
  • Melting chocolate in various colors
  • Candy decorations (candy bows and sugar pearls are what I used)
  • Craft sticks or lollipop sticks for serving

Directions

1. Dip the end of the craft stick into peanut butter and clump a decent amount on both sides of the stick. Place that sticky peanut butter end between two layers of pretzel snaps.

2. Melt the colored melting chocolate chips according to package instructions. Add a dollop to the top of the pretzel sandwich then carefully smooth out around the base of the pretzel where the stick was inserted and around the top and sides of the pretzels, enough that it will all stick together once it has hardened. I did not bother with the back, but you could definitely cover the back as well. Place the chocolate-covered peanut butter pretzel pop onto a piece of wax paper.

3. While the chocolate is still soft, begin decorating. I added a candy bow at the top, then on several I added sugar pearl polka dots. Some I added a red ribbon made from another color of the melted chips. You can either use one of the craft sticks to do the decorating or use a cake decorating tip (I recommend the latter to give it a more finished look, but I did not personally feel like getting a bag dirty for this–call me cheap and lazy–so I just decorated using a craft stick.).

4. Once the Peanut Butter Pretzel Present Pops are nearly hardened, pick them up off the wax paper and carefully knock off any excess chocolate, smooth down peaks of chocolate, and wipe off any unwanted chocolate areas or peanut butter smudges for a clean look. Let harden completely.

Peanut Butter Pretzel Present Pops are perfect for parties (goodness, I love alliteration…saying that five times fast.). They are fairly simple to make and are such an adorable treat.

My boys absolutely loved them and so do I. Seriously, I am fighting the urge to go eat them all while my kids are asleep. We even decided to ship some to Daddy overseas because my kids love sharing, but I’m not so sure I’m in the sharing mood…but, giving to others is a big part of Christmas, I suppose, so I’m refraining from eating them. Oh, they are good though.
