Sometimes getting the proper daily servings of your food groups can be challenging, especially for kids. Personally, I am obsessed with fruits and vegetables and eat a ton, but sometimes I still cannot get enough. Sometimes you just need to blend a bunch together and make a fruit smoothie, so I’ve partnered with Jif and Dannon to bring you this nutritious snack–the Breezy Blossom Smoothie.

This easy smoothie with peanut butter was inspired by some snacks that I love to eat with peanut butter:

  • Apples/pears and peanut butter
  • Peanut butter and strawberry jelly tortilla roll-ups
  • Bananas and peanut butter
  • Celery sticks with peanut butter
This quick smoothie recipe has both fruits and vegetables, as well as some protein and dairy. It's a great snack or breakfast smoothie for a nutritious pick-me-up.

Let me tell you quickly why I name this smoothie the Breezy Blossom Smoothie.

I decided to crowdsource with a few friends trying to come up with a fitting name, because I needed it to be just right. I briefly described the ingredients and showed them a picture of what I’d created. We threw around some ideas based off of the ingredients, but then I was challenged to try a name based off of the appearance, like Apple Blossom Smoothie. I loved this, but it still didn’t feel like it completely encompassed what this was all about. Another friend let me bounce some other ideas back and forth until we finally agreed that Breezy Blossom fit it perfectly. It describes its delightful appearance, delicate and refreshing flavor, and its chilly temperature. As you drink it, close your eyes and imagine the sweet floral aroma wafting through the air on a breezy spring or summer day.

Smoothies are such a great way to not only get more servings of your food groups, but also to get the kids eating their servings. My oldest, E, absolutely loved this smoothie with celery, fruit, dairy, and protein. He tried to drink all of mine.

This recipe all started with a trip. A trip to Walmart, to be more specific. I needed to gather my ingredients. I picked up some Jif™ Creamy Peanut Butter in the aisle with the peanut butter and spreads, then some Dannon Vanilla All Natural Lowfat Yogurt in the refrigerated aisle. My final stop was to pick up some fresh produce to blend up. I love that Jif is loaded with 7g of protein, and did you know that Dannon plain yogurt is made with only natural ingredients?

To prepare this recipe, you will want to peel, clean, and cut up your fruits and vegetables ahead of time then freeze them in baggies.

Breezy Blossom Smoothie Frozen Fruit

Grab out your blender. If you don’t own one or are in need of a replacement, the Oster® Blend-N-Go® MyBlend® is a great choice. You can just fill, blend, & go! I love the simplicity and convenience of single-serving blenders.

As you can see in my pictures, I blended two groups of ingredients separately to give the smoothie a beautiful look. You can do this as well (then drink them separately or mix them up) or blend it all together in the first place. I had fun trying both groups separately then mixed together, because it felt like I was getting more than one smoothie in the same glass.

Since I froze the fruits and vegetables, I did not have to use ice for my smoothie. If you choose not to freeze them, you will need to use ice; make sure you put the ice in first so the fruits are on the bottom to blend up before the ice, or it will get watered down. The order I added everything was fruits, yogurt and peanut butter, then juice.

Let the fruit thaw for a few minutes before you start blending. It will give you a nice, smooth smoothie texture.

I started with the berry smoothie. In your blender cup, add banana slices, strawberry slices, yogurt, and some apple juice. Blend it up until it is smooth then pour it into your glass.

Breezy Blossom Smoothie Step 1

You can rinse out the blender cup in between if you wish (I did) or just leave it since all the flavors will mix anyway.

For the next layer, add apple, pear, celery, peanut butter, yogurt, and some apple juice in your blender and blend it up until it is smooth. Pour it into your glass. You can swirl these together if you wish or have a fun flavor twist in the middle.

  5. This sounds delicious! I love smoothies. I usually have one for breakfast in the mornings. I also freeze my fruits too! I typically freeze them so all the fruits for one smoothie are all in one bag. Then, I can just dump them into the blender and not have to worry about measuring amounts or anything if I’m in a rush. 🙂
