Fall/Halloween Handprint Spider Art

Handprint Spider on WebHandprint art is a great way to create something adorable and record milestones because you can see how your child’s hand grows over the years. You can make so many different things for so many occasions. I really wanted to come up with some fun handprint crafts for the Fall/Halloween season and share them with you all!

This handprint spider project is super cute and a little different than your conventional handprint art that uses all the fingers.

What You Need

  • Brown construction paper
  • Black washable paint (I used acrylic but you can also use Crayola washable paint) on a plate
  • Paintbrush
  • White crayon
  • Craft glue
  • Six googly eyes

Directions

1. Using a white crayon, draw lines on the piece of paper–think of an asterisk. I had mine offset a little from the center.

2. Let your child draw circles around the center of the lines to make it look like a spider web.

3. Paint one of your child’s palms, except for the thumb. Have your child press his/her hand down on the paper. Press firmly on his hand (but not too firmly so he doesn’t get hurt) so the full handprint shows.

4. Paint your child’s other palm, excluding the thumb again, and repeat step 3 but on the opposite side to make the spider’s other set of legs. Overlap the palm on each.

5. Have your child stick his/her finger in the paint and put two bumps on the top of the spider.

6. Glue on the googly eyes at the top by the bumps.

Bonus Tip: Use this project to teach about spiders! Let your child know that spiders have eight legs and are members of the arachnid family. Point out the differences between spiders (arachnids) and insects and that spiders, while bugs, are not insects.
